Steeple Road Antrim: Motorcyclist dies following serious crash involving lorry

Police have confirmed that a man has died following a road traffic collision in Antrim this morning, Thursday January 16.

Officers received a report of a two vehicle road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a lorry in the Steeple Road area just after 9.30am. The male, who was the rider of the motorcycle, sadly died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The Steeple Road remains closed at this time.

Earlier today, the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said it had attended the scene following an emergency call, and confirmed "no patients were taken from the scene."

In a statement, a spokesperson for the NIAS said: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 9:34 on Thursday 16th January following reports of an RTC on the Steeple Road, Antrim.

"NIAS despatched two Emergency Crews, one Rapid Response Vehicle and one Doctor to the incident. No patients were taken from the scene."

PSNI Inspector Cherith Adair said this evening: “At approximately 9.35am, we received a report of a two vehicle road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a lorry. The male, who was the rider of the motorcycle, sadly died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

“Enquiries are continuing and anyone who witnessed the collision or with CCTV or other footage that could assist with our investigation is asked to contact police at the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference number 325 16/01/25.”
