A man threatened staff at a Holyland off-licence with a knife during an armed robbery on Saturday evening.

A man entered the off-licence on Agincourt Avenue in South Belfast at around 4.25pm on Saturday, March 1, and threatened the two male members of staff with a knife before making off on foot in the direction of Botanic Avenue with a sum of money and tobacco.

While nobody was injured during the incident it was described as a "traumatic event" for staff.

The man is described as 5”10 in height, wearing a black coloured jacket with a grey hood, black bottoms and light-coloured trainers. He is believed to have been wearing a blue coloured surgical style mask and a red glove.

At this time police do not believe the incident is connected to a stabbing that took place on the same street, Agincourt Avenue, a few hours later when a man in his 50s was allegedly stabbed in the shoulder

Detective Sergeant Faulkner said: “At around 4:25pm, it was reported that a man entered an off-licence in the area. It was reported the man threatened two male members of staff with a knife during the incident. “The man is described as 5”10 in height, wearing a black coloured jacket with a grey hood, black bottoms and light-coloured trainers. He is believed to have been wearing a blue coloured surgical style mask and a red glove.
