SSE Airtricity has announced major changes to its Northern Irish energy business which will put 55 jobs at risk.
The energy provider has announced today that it will close its Energy Services business due to an extended period of challenging trade.
Based on the Maryland Industrial Estate in Moneyreagh, Co Down, SSE Airtricity Energy Services NI employs 55 people and provides upgrades to home heating systems to private customers and housing bodies.

Staff have been consulted on the businesses closure with SSE saying that it follows several years of financial losses and a lack of progress in the development of government policy supports for home retrofit.
SSE has said that it will continue to supply electricity and gas in Northern Ireland and other aspects of its business here will be unaffected, including a further 275 jobs.
Stuart Hobbs, Director of SSE Airtricity Energy Services, said: “It’s disappointing that we’ve had to make this decision, which is no reflection on the employees who have worked hard to bring improved energy services and upgrades to homes across Northern Ireland.
“However SSE Airtricity Energy Services NI is not commercially sustainable in current market conditions.
“We have started a consultation with staff today to discuss our intention to close the business and the support we will provide through this change. We will consider affected employees for redeployment within SSE where available.
“Despite these changes, SSE Airtricity remains committed to serving domestic and business customers in Northern Ireland, where we have a long-standing presence.”
