Paramedics have rushed to dense bushland outside of Sydney after a skydiver crash landed in a tree. Emergency services were called to Wilton, 80km south west of Sydney, on Monday just before 2pm following reports of a skydiving 'mishap'.
The 24-year-old skydiver was jumping alone with Sydney Skydivers when he suffered a malfunction and began plummeting to the ground.
He landed in a tree canopy near Picton and Wilton Park Road but fell a further 10m to the ground when the branches holding his body snapped, injuring his back.
'It's a pretty significant fall,' Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson Adam Dewberry said.
A Careflight helicopter and four ambulance crews responded to the accident, with paramedics performing a clinical assessment on the man at the scene.
Paramedics conducted an ultrasound to assess his internal injuries before he was stabilised and taken by road to Liverpool hospital.
The skydiver is reported to have suffered injuries to his ankle, hip and back but is conscious and in a stable condition.
It's understood an investigation will be launched into the cause of the accident once the skydiving company is able to speak with the skydiver.
Inspector Sylvia Malecki from NSW Ambulance said the man was in 'reasonably good spirits' after regaining consciousness from the fall.
'He was extremely lucky not to sustain more significant injuries upon landing,' said Insp Malecki told 7News.
'Considering the scare the man just had, he was in reasonably good spirits.'
'We urge thrill seekers to take every safety precaution possible when participating in extreme outdoor activities.'
'He should buy a lotto ticket he is a very lucky man.'
