VICTOR – A small shop near Victor was destroyed in an early morning fire.

It happened Sunday around 3:30 a.m. near the Shooting Star subdivision on the hillside above 5000 South off ID Highway 33, according to a news release from Teton County Fire & Rescue.

A large glow could be seen from the valley, fire officials say, and a passerby who saw the flames called 911.

The 30-foot by 40-foot building was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived.

No one was home at the time and no other buildings were threatened, but it was particularly challenging for fire officials.

Just getting there was the first challenge. The shop is located on a steep and narrow road with tight switchbacks and slippery winter driving conditions.

Once they were there, there was no available water source.

Crews eventually put out the fire, but the building is a total loss.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause.
