Broome, Western Australia — A light aircraft carrying seven people crashed into waters off the West Australian coast on Thursday morning, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
The plane went down in Roebuck Bay, Broome, at around 11:30 a.m., shortly after taking off from Broome Airport.
Emergency services, including multiple ambulances, paramedics, police, marine rescue crews, and fire units, were dispatched to the scene as authorities launched rescue operations.
Initial reports from St John WA indicated that all seven people on board — believed to be five passengers and two pilots — were injured. However, police later clarified that only one person sustained minor head injuries, with no serious injuries reported among the others.
According to local media, at least one individual was winched from the wreckage by a rescue helicopter, highlighting the intensity of the response.
Flight tracking data shows the aircraft was en route to Mungalalu Truscott Airport, located about 620 kilometres north-east of Broome, near the northernmost tip of Western Australia. The airport is commonly used by fly-in, fly-out workers traveling to offshore oil and gas facilities.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the crash. WA Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
