A Northern Ireland Church has been targeted by vandals who destroyed a sign advertising a children's Sunday School.

Limavady Baptist Church was targeted over the weekend. The church's large sign was "deliberately destroyed". DUP councillor Aaron Callan described the vandalism as an "attack on a vital part of our community".

In a statement, Mr Callan said: "I am deeply saddened and disappointed to hear that Limavady Baptist Church has been targeted by an act of vandalism. Over the weekend, the church’s large sign, which advertises its Sunday School, was deliberately destroyed—ripped up and rendered unusable."

He continued: "This is not just senseless damage to property; it is an attack on a vital part of our community. The Sunday School provides a welcoming, safe, and nurturing environment where children and families—many of whom do not otherwise engage with church—can learn values like kindness, respect, and responsibility. It serves as a bridge to community support, moral guidance, and personal development."

The DUP councillor added: "To see this kind of destruction in our town is truly disheartening. I stand with Limavady Baptist Church in condemning this act and urge anyone with information to come forward. We must all work together to ensure that acts like this do not become a norm in our community."

SDLP councillor Ashleen Schenning said: "[It is] deeply concerning that individuals in our community could be so disrespectful and destructive. If anyone has any information on this attack please pass it on. I am happy to receive information and relay on."

The PSNI has been approached for comment.
