Airport officials said in a tweet shortly after 8 p.m. that the investigation is underway in the baggage claim area of Terminal 1, which is used primarily by Southwest. People have been evacuated from the terminal’s lower level, the tweet said.

The entrance to the airport from Perimeter Road is blocked off. Travelers are encouraged to check their airlines for updated information on flights.

Additional details were not immediately available.

Heavy rain is delaying departing flights by up to an hour, according to FlightAware. Arriving flights are delayed by about 30 minutes.
