Ryanair passenger in tears as she's charged extra for 'broken' suitcase handle

1 month ago 142

A Ryanair flyer was left utterly astounded when faced with an additional charge which she firmly contends was unwarranted. The irked traveller recounted being hit with a £60 fee for her mini suitcase, which she insists nestled snugly into the metal sizing device provided.

Ryanair's policy stipulates that standard fare travellers are permitted one small bag on board that cannot exceed dimensions of 40 x 30 x 25cm. For those seeking to bring larger luggage, a 'cabin baggage' upgrade extends the allowance to a bag up to 10kg and no greater than 55 x 40 x 20cm in size.

Purchasing this option beforehand can incur a fee as high as £36. Nonetheless, the airline – competing against carriers like Jet2, Easyjet, TUI, British Airways, among others – has issued alerts that gate check-in could escalate charges up to a staggering £75.

Venting her frustration on TikTok, the holiday-goer uploaded footage demonstrating her case fitting perfectly within the gauge. Unluckily for her, the handle didn't retract all the way, triggering the additional cost.

Her post on TikTok was sardonically titled: "Aer Lingus, you've gained a new brand ambassador," Among the slew of replies, one individual questioned: "It's literally a perfect fit?" Another perplexed TikToker sought clarification: "Wait can you explain what they said because that makes no sense.", reports Birmingham Live.

Responding to the confounded commenters, the TikTok poster explained: "She [the Ryanair staff member] genuinely just kept saying 'it doesn't fit, sorry, I need your card details' and was so rude. She made the woman behind me do it too and the poor woman was bawling crying."

One viewer pointed out that the suitcase slightly exceeds the limit, saying: "It's sticking out ever so slightly as there's a yellow-black line on the outer rim, the depth measured with a ruler is 20cm," as the video gained traction online.

According to Ryanair's website, "If your Check-in Bag exceeds the baggage size dimensions, you will need to check it in at the Oversize Baggage Desk and will be charged an appropriate fee."

Another user chimed in, suggesting the real issue lies with the handle: "Your handle is broken and because it's broken it has to take up twice the amount of space in the overhead cabin."
