Rory McIlroy Masters LIVE updates from final round at Augusta as Holywood man bids for place in history books

Only five players in the history of golf have won the career Grand Slam of four majors - that's the Open, the US Open, USPGA and The Masters. Those men are Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods

It hasn't happened in 25 years and has only happened once in the last 59 years. The stakes are incredibly high for Rory McIlroy who would join that elite group with victory at Augusta National tonight.

He came into the final round in 2011 in an identical position but shot a disastrous final round of 80 to throw away any chance he had of donning the Green Jacket that goes with Masters success.

He went on to claim major glory at the US Open weeks later. Remarkably he hasn't claimed a major title in over a decade now. The good news now is that he is playing as well as he ever has and is up wo number two in the world.

He has played as well this week as he ever has at Augusta and looks primed for glory. He thought the same at the US Open last year, only for Bryson deChambeau to nip in and take glory.

The American star, who operates on the LIV Tour, is just two shots behind McIlroy going into the final round and it's set up for one of the most exciting finishes to a major tournament of all time.

All of Holywood, Northern Ireland and the island of Ireland are crossing their fingers and hoping to see McIlroy become the first ever Irish winner at the Masters.

One thing is for sure with Rory, it's going to be one hell of a ride. The final round should be complete after 11pm. Unless we need a play-off. Rule nothing out!.
