RIGBY – A 20-year-old woman was charged with lewd conduct with a minor after allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old boy in a Latter-day Saint church parking lot.
Reese Rose Clark was charged with the felony count on Feb. 21, stemming from an incident that occurred on Oct. 6. Lewd conduct with a minor carries a potential punishment of life in prison.
According to court documents, a detective with the Rigby City Police Department interviewed the 15-year-old victim on Dec. 13 about the incident. The victim told the detective the pair were not dating but met at his residence in Rigby. He said the 20-year-old picked him up from his residence at around midnight.
The victim said he and Clark had talked for a few hours and then proceeded to have sex in her car twice.
When asked about Clark’s age, the victim responded that she told him she was 18 and that other people knew she was 18. The affidavit states that the victim was never told she was 19 during the incident.
In screenshots of a conversation on Snapchat between Clark and the victim, the 20-year-old states she knew he was 15 years old. In that conversation, Clark and the victim talk about using an emergency contraception pill due to the unprotected sex.
Clark was interviewed by detectives on Feb. 10 about the incident and was read her Miranda Rights. The affidavit states she understood her rights and agreed to talk with the detective.
The woman told the detective she was confused as to why she was meeting with the detective, and when informed there was an investigation of a sex offense that she was involved in, she laughed nervously. Clark said it shocked her as she said, “Oh, oh, I don’t mess with minors. I do not do that at all.”
The affidavit states she denied any knowledge of the incident.
The detective reported that after a short break, Clark was informed of the investigation’s results. The affidavit states the woman sank in her chair and stated she had never done anything like that.
Clark told the detective that she had only been with three other individuals but that all of them were of legal age. She later said, “That I know of at least. Unless I was lied to.”
The detective told Clark the victim’s name, and she responded with the victim’s full name. The detective said there were text messages between her and the victim on Snapchat.
Clark argued she did not have Snapchat, but the detective responded the messages were about the night of the incident and plans on getting the emergency contraceptive pills.
Clark told the detective that the victim had told her he was 19 and lied about his age. The affidavit states there were Snapchat messages in which Clark told the victim that she knew he was 15 years of age.
Clark disclosed her version of the incident. She said the victim had reached out to her to hang out, and she agreed. She did go and pick up the victim from his home and then drove around until she got tired and needed to go somewhere to park. The two of them drove to a church near an elementary school, and it was there they had sex.
Clark is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing before Magistrate Judge Daniel Clark at 1:30 p.m. on March 6.
Though Clark has been charged with these crimes, this does not necessarily mean she committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
