PSNI statement as man arrested on suspicion of murder in Belfast after Dublin stabbing

Police have issued a statement confirming officers arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of murder following a fatal stabbing in Dublin.

Nigerian native Quaham Babatunde, 34, died following a stabbing attack on South Anne Street in the Irish capital over the weekend, with two suspects being arrested as part of the investigation into his death.

Gardai arrested one man in Dublin while the PSNI have now confirmed they arrested a 23-year-old man in Belfast.

It is understood the man was arrested while attempting to board a ferry from Belfast to Liverpool.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "On 16th February, 2025, officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland arrested a 23-year-old man in Belfast on suspicion of murder.

"The arrest was made in connection with a fatal assault in the South Anne Street/Duke Lane Upper area of Dublin in the early hours of Saturday 15th February, 2025.

"The man was detained under the Criminal Jurisdiction Act 1975 and remains in police custody at this time.

"Officers will continue to work closely with An Garda Síochána and a further update will be provided in due course.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact our colleagues in An Garda Síochána at Pearse Street Garda Station on 00353 1 666 9000 or the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111."
