PSNI issue warning after driver 'twice the legal limit' crashes into traffic lights

Police in Lisburn and Castlereagh have made an arrest after a single-car crash on Saturday morning.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said officers responding to the crash in the Newtownbreda area made the driver take a preliminary breath test which led to the arrest on suspicion of "Driving With Excess Alcohol".

A further test after the arrest revealed the driver was two times over the legal limit.

In a social media post, the PSNI said: "This was the scene Police were met with after responding to a report of a single vehicle Road Traffic Collision this morning.

"Police carried out a Preliminary Breath Test at the Roadside and the Driver was subsequently arrested for Driving With Excess Alcohol.

"The Driver was conveyed to Custody where they undertook the evidential procedure, this has provided a reading where the Driver was twice over the Legal Limit.

"When the driver sobers up they will be Charged To Court.

"Thankfully on this occasion NO one was hurt! Thanks to the Members of public who reported the incident and stayed at the location for the arrival of police.

"Never ever drink and drive!"
