The PSNI have issued an appeal after a car 'almost collided' with a teenager in Co Down.

Police have asked the public who may have noticed a black Volkswagen "driving erratically" in Newcastle on the evening of March 25 to get in contact.

A 15-year-old who was running in the area was reported to have almost been struck by the car after officers signalled for it to stop after it was spotted acting 'suspiciously' in Donard car park.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "On Monday 24th March 2025 just after 2000 hours Police were on mobile patrol in Donard Carpark, Newcastle when they observed a black Volkswagen Golf acting suspiciously.

"When Police have signalled for the driver to stop he has made off in the direction of the Bryansford Road.

"The driver almost collided with a 15 year old who was out running at the time.

"It is believed that a member of the public stopped with the young person at the time but did not provide any details.

"If you witnessed this vehicle driving erratically or stopped to speak with the victim please contact Police on 101 quoting reference 1746 of 24/03/25."
