Protest against Trump Administration policies planned Saturday in Idaho Falls

IDAHO FALLS — A protest against the Trump administration’s policies is planned for Saturday in Idaho Falls.

Organizers say a peaceful demonstration will begin at noon on the southeast corner of the Broadway Bridge. The purpose is to protest Trump’s “policies of dismantling programs that support middle- and working-class Americans and funneling hundreds of millions of dollars to billionaires.”

“The Trump Administration is defying the rule of law, and our Congressional representatives have abdicated their Constitutionally-assigned powers,” said Shantelle Duran, one of the demonstration’s organizers. “We want to make it clear that we believe this administration’s policies are harmful to most Americans and we demand true transparency from the unelected billionaire currently raiding our government coffers.”

Members of the public who want to participate in the protest are asked to meet at the southeast corner of the Broadway Bridge at noon. Organizers ask participants to be respectful and follow laws regarding obstruction.

Duran and other organizers spearheaded a demonstration against Trump’s immigration policies two weeks ago with over 350 people showing up.

“The immigration issue remains a pressing one, especially in a state like Idaho where so much of our economy depends on agricultural workers. Additionally, our local farmers are impacted by USAID funds, and with federal funding for Medicare and Social Security at risk, many of our disabled and elderly community members could be negatively impacted,” Duran said in a news release.
