Police warn Belfast drivers of traffic disruption this weekend

Police have issued a weekend traffic warning as a number of parades are taking place in Belfast this coming Saturday, 22 February.

In east Belfast a parade will commence at 10.20am at Pottinger Street and proceed along the following route: Beersbridge Road, Templemore Ave, Epworth Street, Lord Street, to Thorndyke Street where there will be a 5 minute wreath laying service.

The parade will then move onto Templemore Avenue, Newtownards Road, Bridge End, Ann Street, Victoria Street, High Street, Castle Place and Royal Avenue. Here it will u-turn at the junction with North Street where a service of remembrance will take place at approximately 11.30am.

The return parade will travel along the following route: Royal Avenue, Castle Place, High Street, Victoria Street, Waring Street, Albert Square, Donegall Quay, QE2 Bridge, Middlepath Street, Newtownards Road and Templemore Avenue, and will disperse on Albertbridge Road at around 12.40pm.

In north Belfast, a parade will begin in Woodvale Park at 1pm and move along Woodvale Road, Shankill Road, Northumberland Street, Shankill Leisure Centre Carpark, Northumberland Street, Shankill Road. A remembrance service will then take place at 2pm in the Garden of Reflection Shankill Graveyard.

Motorists should also expect some traffic disruption in the area of Boucher Road due to a football match at Windsor Park, which kicks off at 3pm.
