Police investigating the discovery of a rucksack reportedly containing a hammer, mask, cable ties and condoms have charged a man.
In a statement issued on Saturday night the PSNI said officers in Coleraine have charged the 40-year-old with a range of offences.
The move comes after a major police investigation in the wake of the discovery which sparked widespread concern.
The statement said officers “investigating the discovery of a bicycle and a bag containing a number of items in the Strand Road area of the town on Thursday, 13th February, have this evening, Saturday 22nd February, charged a man to court”.
A spokesperson added: “The man, aged 40, has been charged with common assault, false imprisonment, possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, domestic abuse offences, and two counts of theft.
“He is expected to appear before Coleraine Magistrates Court on Monday 24th February. As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.”
