The PSNI has issued an appeal for witnesses after the report of a "large altercation" at a Co Down beach on Friday.
Early this morning, officers dismissed rumours that had circulated online, claiming there had been a fatality on Ballyholme Beach. They say this is an untrue rumour, and called for "responsible" posting when using social media.
They said: "We are aware that there are rumours circulating that following the incident, a male has died - this is not the case and this sort of speculation is not helpful. We are not aware of any serious injuries. People need to responsible when posting online."
In an updated statement on Saturday afternoon, a PSNI spokesperson added: "We’re continuing to investigate last night’s report of a large altercation at Ballyholme Beach. We also understand there’s footage of what happened circulating online.
"In order to assist us with the ongoing investigation – we’re asking anyone in possession of the footage, or witnessed what happened, to get in touch. You can do this by calling 101 and quoting reference number 1806 11/04/25.
"Alternatively, you can submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/.
"You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at http://crimestoppers-uk.org/."
