Pierce Brosnan has revealed the difficult time his family faced as wildfires ravaged their local area. Forced to evacuate, Brosnan's spouse, Keely Shaye Smith, left their California home as the blaze ripped through their neighbourhood.
Although their property was spared, the effects linger. Brosnan was unable to be with his family during this crisis, as he was in the UK filming MobLand with co-stars Tom Hardy and Helen Mirren.
In a conversation with the Telegraph, Pierce opened up about the hardship of being far from his loved ones when they needed him most: "It's been rough. I'll finally see her this weekend, Oh my God! Two days after I left Los Angeles, there were the fires.
"They were saying, 'Get out!' Keely hung in for a while but eventually she had to leave. The house is still standing but you need a pass to get in and out of the area and she hasn't been able to make it over here."
"Bless her heart, she's carried the weight of the world, what with that and looking after her mum and family life."
The former 007 also expressed frustration at the lack of governmental assistance for those suffering the effects of the wildfires, reports the Mirror US.
He said: "It's been a right old time. [Los Angeles] is really broken, the air quality is awful, the government there doesn't seem to be doing much to help the citizens. It's awful."
Notwithstanding the severity of the early-January disaster, there have been allegations that the Trump administration has been reluctant to release funds that could alleviate the suffering of those affected by the fires.
Last month, California Governor Gavin Newsom requested $40billion (£30.9bn) from the White House to support individuals impacted by the blaze. In response to the Trump administration's growing assertiveness, the Democrats are attempting to gain leverage, with Governor Newsom even launching his own podcast.
Meanwhile, Brosnan has quashed rumors of returning as James Bond at the age of 71, following Amazon's acquisition of full creative control over the iconic franchise. During an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, he clarified his stance on the character.
He stated: "No one's spoken to me about it. I've heard all of the rumours. Listen, they know where to find me. Let's see where the wind takes us.
"It's going to be another man's job. I'm not looking to go there. I'm quite happy with my career. I've done it, it was wonderful. Delightful kind of notion to contemplate.
"He's with me for life [Bond]. It was great. A magical time in my life.
"It opened a lot of doors and allowed me to go off and form my own company and make my own movies – The Thomas Crown Affair, The Matador – it gave me access to a whole other world as an actor, employment."
