You might reckon you're a laundry guru, with your precise colour coordination and your talent for choosing just the right detergent.
But have you taken a moment to contemplate if you're slotting your cleaning agents into the proper compartment of your washing machine's detergent drawer?
It seems a good few of us are blissful unaware that these compartments have specific functions a revelation for some.
Fear not, it's always a good time to learn something new. TikTok user Elle has come forward to enlighten those out of the loop about their detergent drawers, reports the Irish Mirror.
Keep in mind, the design and layout of these compartments might differ based on your washing machine model, so having a gander at the manual would be wise.
In her handy TikTok video, Elle points out that the first compartment, usually the largest, is meant for washing powder.
She suggests: "Do a cup full or however much you think is enough," depending on the size of your wash load. This slot is also suitable for liquid detergent, which is released early on in the washing cycle.
The second compartment, often marked with a max fill line, is for fabric softener. It's smaller since you only need a small bit of fabric softener, if you use it at all.
The third compartment of the washing machine drawer, typically the second-largest, is actually intended for pre-wash products like stain removers. To take advantage of this function, just drop your chosen pre-wash solution into it before you start the wash cycle.
Washing machine drawers differ depending on the model, but they generally come with useful symbols to direct users.
A single bar indicates the pre-wash slot, two bars denote the main wash detergent section, and a flower-like symbol signals where the fabric conditioner should go.
This revelation has left plenty of people shocked as they realise their laundry blunders. Voicing their surprise, one individual exclaimed: "OMG I've been putting my powder in the wrong drawer."
Another candidly confessed: "I just wing it and hope for the best."
And yet another person had a moment of clarity: "Yeah I've been doing this all wrong."
