Most homes will likely have a can of WD-40 tucked away somewhere. It's a versatile product, handy for a multitude of tasks around the house such as lubricating squeaky hinges and wheels, preventing rust on tools and metal surfaces, and even cleaning greasy engines and exhaust grime.

But while it might be a staple in your household arsenal, have you ever stopped to ponder what the name actually means?

TikTok users are having a collective lightbulb moment after discovering the origins of the WD-40 name. In a viral post that has caught the attention of many, TikTok user @enterviewteev shared with his 117,000 followers that he was "today years old" when he found out what "WD" stands for.

His caption read: "I bet over 90% of my followers had no idea," expressing his own surprise at the revelation. In his enlightening video, he urged: "Please don't come in the comment section for this video and act like you already knew this. I'll be doing videos."

He continued, addressing his audience with a hint of challenge: "A lot of y'all be acting like some of the videos I'm doing be common knowledge when all actually you guys are going on Google looking the info up and they come back to the comment section like it's common knowledge like you something you already knew.", reports the Mirror.

He concluded with the reveal that left many astonished: "And for this video I know a lot of you didn't know about this. WD40. The WD in WD-40 stands for water dispersal. Who knew that the WD in WD-40 stood for water dispersal? Nobody even thinks about those academics when they using WD-40."

He followed up with his followers, revealing a newfound fact, saying: "I never even, never ever thought about WD-40. What does WD stand for? We don't think about those things. So do not comment in comments and act like you've been doing that."

The user added more detail, noting: "Some people might have known. Like if you are mechanic or something you might have known. But don't come here as a hairdresser say you already knew what WD40 was, or a cleric or assistant or something like saying you already knew what this would stand for."

Then he elaborated on his revelation: "The WD and WD-40 stands for water dispersal. Appreciate y'all. Have a good day. Salute."

His discovery resonated with many, as the post quickly attracted numerous likes and comments. Evidently, the information was news to some, with one person commenting: "Didn't know that all these years, never even thought about it."

And another conceding: "Can't say I knew that! " A third responded with surprise: "Wow never knew that."

While another shared: "Use it a lot, didn't know that. Taught me something." Still, there were others who claimed they had known the fact from a young age.
