Patrick Kielty reacts as bosses make big change to this year's Late Late Toy Show

Patrick Kielty wasn't fazed by RTÉ bosses changing the Late Late Toy Show date this year.

The annual TV event, which is Ireland's most-watched programme of the year, typically airs in late November.

However, this year it will air in December for the first time as it arrives on screens this Friday. Presenter Patrick has reacted to this change, saying it doesn't bother him and wasn't his decision to make, RSVP reports.

"I didn't mind it either way, I'd do it in September or January! I'm just so thrilled to be doing it. All that other stuff is above my pay grade," he said.

"It will be interesting to see if people wait now to stick up the tree on Toy Show night, since it's a bit later. I think it's going to feel pretty special this year with it so close to Christmas."

This is Patrick's second year at the helm of the Late Late Toy Show. Last year's debut was a resounding success for the comedian, but of course there were nerves and pressure to follow in the footsteps of Gay Byrne, Pat Kenny and Ryan Tubridy in the lead-up, both from Patrick and the viewers.

"Nothing prepares you for hosting the Toy Show and the buzz you have during it. I felt a lot of people in the building were stopping me last year, in a concerned way, asking how I was feeling," he told the RTE Guide.

"It became apparent that they were worried about me doing it, rather than the other way around. It was kind of like, 'You're not going to mess up our Toy Show?' So, I think there was relief all round when it went well."

There is extra excitement for Patrick this year, as his sons look forward to watching their dad on the TV. He shares Milo, 8, and James, 6, with wife and This Morning host Cat Deeley and Patrick says they are the perfect age to soak up all of the festive fun.

He said: "We've started early at home. A couple of the Toy Show 'Write a letter to Santa' kits landed into the office, so I brought them home for the kids."

"Our pair are bang in that sweet spot, aged six and eight, so when they saw them, they couldn't believe they were from the Toy Show and of course insisted they write them then and there."

"Seeing our two so excited about that kit and you're hosting that show, it makes me realise that life moves a lot quicker than you think and you've got to really enjoy those moments, it's absolutely magic."

It has been a busy time for Patrick and the Late Late Show. He has recorded this year's New Year's Eve Special, and will host a festive edition of the talk show on December 13th, a week after the Toy Show.

The TV favourite is looking forward to a relaxed Christmas spent with his family in his native Dundrum.

He added: "We'll take a week or a couple of weeks over Christmas at home, get the Toy Show pyjamas on and chill out after a mad few weeks."
