A parliamentary committee on Tuesday adopted a resolution reaffirming support for the alliance between South Korea and the United States and their joint efforts toward the denuclearization of North Korea.
The National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee passed the resolution pledging bipartisan support for the alliance as Seoul seeks to navigate economic and security challenges under U.S. President Donald Trump.
"We support efforts between South Korea and the United States toward North Korea's denuclearization and promise to actively back them," the resolution said.
The resolution also vowed to support efforts to strengthen the bilateral alliance in various fields, including trade, investment, economic security, energy, artificial intelligence, nuclear energy and the shipbuilding industry.
"The National Assembly passed the resolution to bolster the combined defense posture between South Korea and the United States, promote peace on the Korean Peninsula and make efforts toward a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula, and expand cooperation in emerging security areas, such as cyber and space," it said.
