More than 100 NYPD cops packed a Brooklyn court to send a message to a career criminal accused of shooting an off-duty police officer.

Randy 'Popper' Jones, 38, appeared in Brooklyn Criminal Court charged with the first-degree murder of Adeed Fayaz, 26.

The married father-of-two was allegedly shot in the head by Jones while trying to purchase a car from Facebook Marketplace on Saturday.

Jones was ordered to be held at Rikers Island without bail by Judge Dale Fong-Frederick, after Fayaz passed away at Brookdale Hospital.

Prosecutors say that Jones had an outstanding traffic warrant and was also wanted in a rape case in Virginia when he shot at the off-duty cop and his brother-in-law in East New York.

Fayaz, who served in the NYPD since 2017, traveled with his relative to meet the seller of a Honda Odyssey at 7pm on February 4.

The pair were ambushed, with Jones allegedly getting Fayaz in a headlock and demanding the $24,000 for the car.

Brooklyn Assistant District Attorney Leila Rosini told the court: 'When Officer Fayaz and his brother arrived, the defendant pulled a gun, demanded money and then shot Officer Fayaz when they didn't produce the money, which they had left in the car along with the bill of sale.

Tragically, and unbeknownst to the defendant, the $24,000 in cash was in their car, just not on their person and he did not wait. He just shot.'

His brother-in-law then grabbed the off-duty officers gun and shot back at the attacker – missing him but hitting his getaway BMW, which was owned by his mother.

The car was located abandoned in Harlem, near where the suspect lived with his girlfriend.

Jones, who has several previous convictions, was tracked down two days after the incident at a Days Inn hotel in Nanuet in Rockland County on Monday.

It is believed he could be behind a similar robbery which took place near the shooting scene on January 13.

Jones has a rap sheet with at least 22 arrests on it for a variety of crimes, including some violent attacks.

He has previously been booked for harassment, grand larceny, and strangulation.

NYPD officers arrested him with Fayaz' handcuffs and hauled him back to Brooklyn where he was charged with murder and robbery.

The fallen officer received a traditional 'transfer of remains' ceremony at the hospital, as flags were flown at half-staff at his Borough Park precinct in his honor.

Officers also lined the street as Jones was taken on his perp walk ahead of his arraignment hearing on Wednesday.

The 66th precinct is accepting donations for Fayaz's family, with cash donations being accepted at the precinct.

Bank transfers are also being accepted, with those who want to donate urged to contact the PCT.
