Northern Ireland weather forecast for the weekend ahead as snow expected

Further snow is expected in Northern Ireland later this weekend, as some areas of the country woke up to snowy scenes on Thursday and Friday.

Friday January 3, is set to be a mostly dry and bright day, particularly over southern counties through the afternoon.

The Met Office added: "However, a few scattered showers, these mainly in the north and east and wintry over the hills. Maximum temperature 4C."

On Friday night, it's due to be dry, with some clear spells over southern counties. The forecaster continued: "A few showers around the north and east coasts, largely dying out overnight. Minimum temperature -2C."

Staying cold on Saturday, January 4. It's forecast to be "dry and bright much of the day with perhaps the odd coastal shower in the north and east" with a maximum temperature of 4C.

And for the outlook for Sunday, January 5, to Tuesday, January 7: "Rain, sleet and snow spreading north on Sunday, clearing to bright spells and some showers on Monday and Tuesday with strong northwesterly winds at times."
