Northern Ireland weather forecast for coming days after mild Christmas and Boxing Day

5 months ago 380

After the mildest start to Christmas Day on record in Northern Ireland and an equally balmy Boxing Day, there are signs of change on the weather front over the coming days.

According to the Met Office, it peaked at 11C at Killowen in Co Down for the 24-hour period ending at 9am on 25 December.

Whether you are preparing to hit the town for some serious sales, spend the day catching up with family or heading on a festive night out, here is what the weather will be like on Friday and beyond.

A mild, mostly cloudy day is also expected on Friday. The weekend is expected to be brighter but colder with blustery showers.

Here's what to expect for the coming weekend:

Friday:

A mainly dry day and cloudy day with just the odd shower. Best chance of any brightness will be across northern and eastern counties. Mild. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Cloudy with patchy rain in the morning, drier in the afternoon. Dry and breezy on Sunday before rain spreads east on Monday.

UK long range weather forecast: Tuesday 31 December - Thursday 9 January

An erratic change from the mild and largely settled conditions of the past few days is expected. Rain, stronger winds and some snow already across Scotland may on Tuesday become more severe and start to push southwards through the middle part of next week, bringing a chance of snow to other parts of the UK, along with colder conditions more widely.

A period of more settled weather then seems probable later next week, with a gradual recovery in temperatures to nearer average for the time of year, perhaps even mild. Beyond this, a fairly changeable picture is most likely although confidence in details is, as usual at this range, very low. Wettest/windiest weather in the north and west, whilst the south and east will probably remain more settled overall.
