Police have launched an investigation after a dead two-year-old girl was dumped at a hospital where emergency department staff raised the alarm.
Detectives from Mackay Child Protection Investigation Unit are investigating the sudden death of the child in North Mackay.
The deceased child was taken to Mackay Base Hospital on Thursday night around 8.30pm.
It's believed hospital emergency staff then alerted police to the toddler's state.
In a statement police said an autopsy will be conducted to establish cause of death.
'Investigations are ongoing and there is no further information available at this time,' police stated.

Police were seen setting up a crime scene outside a home in North Mackay on Friday afternoon as part of the ongoing investigation.
