NI man dies while travelling in the Caribbean

A man from Northern Ireland has died while travelling in the Caribbean, it has been confirmed.

The individual, who is an Irish citizen and is believed to be from Co Armagh, had been in the Dominican Republic when he passed away. The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that they are providing consular assistance.

The circumstances of the man's death have not yet been disclosed.

In a statement to Belfast Live, a spokesperson for the DFA said: "The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of this case and is providing consular assistance.

"As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases."

The Department of Foreign Affairs routinely offers support to Irish citizens and their families during overseas emergencies, including deaths.

In 2024, the DFA provided consular assistance to 405 families of Irish citizens who died abroad, a record number and an increase from 381 in 2023.
