Next permanent Rangers manager odds as former Ibrox hero heads betting

Barry Ferguson endured a tough weekend as Rangers fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Motherwell. It has been a baptism of fire for the new interim manager as he looks to galvanise the club.

Ferguson has stepped into the breach following the sacking of Philippe Clement. It has been a season to forget for the Ibrox faithful.

And many fans are already looking to next season, and a new permanent boss coming in.

Ferguson is one of the names in the early betting odds, but his chances haven't been boosted by recent results. And the former club captain will need a vast improvement in performances to enhance his prospects.

But who could become permanent manager of Rangers?

The man heading the betting will be familiar to supporters. He was in charge the last time the club lifted the Scottish Premiership title in 2021 when he denied Celtic winning 10 in a row.

Steven Gerrard took over at Rangers in 2018 and then left to manage Aston Villa in 2021, but now he is favourite to return to Glasgow. He was most recently with Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq who he left in January.

The former Liverpool captain is 9/4 favourite to become permanent Rangers boss, followed by former Southampton manager Russell Martin (3/1).

Ferguson is 10/1 and then comes David Wagner and Jesse Marsch (16/1). Former Rangers and Northern Ireland midfielder Steven Davis is rated a 20/1 shot.
