Mum who wants to name daughter Athena like Princess Beatrice shares 'one big worry'

Celebrations erupted as the Royal Family announced on January 29 that Princess Beatrice welcomed her second child into the world.

The 36-year-old Royal named her newborn daughter Athena, with her weighing just 4lb 5oz after arriving several weeks prematurely.

The little one, who is reportedly healthy and thriving, is the second child for Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. Athena was born on January 22, at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London and the Palace shared that the King and Queen, along with other royals, are overjoyed by the safe arrival of the baby.

The name Athena might now become even more popular following the Royal birth. However, one expectant parent, considering the same name, expressed reservations about the moniker on the Reddit group r/namenerds. She wrote: "I love goddess names, but I'm not sure if it comes off as 'too much' if you know what I'm saying."

They sought opinions, asking: "Considering that, what's your opinion on the name Athena? And if you like goddess names, what are some others that you like?"

Another individual also voiced their hesitation about the name, commenting: "I feel like the name Athena is so commonly used in the Greek culture, and relatively rare in other cultures, that I'd assume she is Greek? Not necessarily a bad thing! But it is a lot of name with a lot of connotations and I could see a kid being annoyed by it or feeling like it doesn't suit them."

Another person remarked: "I don't know if I would use it because it sounds so Greek to me and I'm not Greek, but I think it's becoming more mainstream!"

Many others reassured the mum-to-be that Athena was indeed a charming choice. One commenter shared: "This is actually my little sister's name. Our family is definitely not Greek, but my dad is a fan of the classics and I guess my parents thought the name was empowering. My sister has certainly always been happy with it. She understood at a young age that she was named after a goddess and she's always been very proud of it."

Another voiced their support saying: "I love it, and regret not using it with my oldest because it would suit her beautifully." Also joining in the praises, someone noted: "My niece has the name and she's the sweetest. It's a beautiful name."

The name Athena, according to The Bump, hails from Greek origin and is derived from the mythological goddess Athena, renowned for her wisdom, warfare prowess, and craftmanship.
