MBC has decided to edit out actor Kim Soo-hyun’s footage from its variety show “Good Day” and issued an official apology after his appearance in the March 16 episode, which sparked backlash amid allegations that he was in a relationship with the late Kim Sae-ron, who was a minor at the time.

On March 17, the show’s production team wrote on the official social media account, “We apologize for causing concern to viewers of ‘Good Day,’” adding, “We've decided to edit out Kim Soo-hyun’s appearances as much as possible. We recognize the seriousness of the controversy and are prioritizing viewer feedback as we move forward with production.”

The team added, “As long as the controversy continues, we believe it could damage the purpose of ‘Good Day,’ which began with good intentions, as well as the sincerity of the other cast members and the support of our viewers.”

Kim Soo-hyun became embroiled in controversy after YouTube channel Hoverlab claimed on March 10, citing a conversation with Kim Sae-ron’s family, that he dated the late actor for six years starting in 2015 when she was just 15 years old.

As public backlash grew, viewers flooded the show’s message board with calls for his removal. Nevertheless, Kim took part in the show’s March 13 recording.

In the fifth episode of Good Day, which aired on Sunday, Kim's footage was edited out, although he still appeared briefly in group scenes with other cast members.

The production team said, “The March 16 episode was a hastily reedited version with Kim Soo-hyun’s scenes removed. As a result, the broadcast was about 10 minutes shorter than usual, and some details were lacking.”

Regarding the decision to proceed with filming on March 13, the team said, “We recorded and filmed sketches with the intention of removing his scenes and minimizing overlap with other cast members. The individual recordings done that day will not be aired.”

The team also noted that the “Good Day General Assembly” segment, which aired in the latter part of episode 5, was filmed on Feb. 18 and will continue over the next six to seven episodes. “We have decided to edit out Kim Soo-hyun’s appearances as much as possible during this segment as well,” it said.

“Good Day” is a variety show that follows singer G-Dragon as he collaborates with people from various fields to complete the “Song of the Year” as part of a music project.
