Marks and Spencer's 'magic shaping' jeans transformed my figure for the better

As the temperatures rise, I'm refreshing my wardrobe and promoting all my go-to spring and summer outfits to the front. I've traded in my thermal leggings for jeans, and in the quest for a fresh pair for the season, I turned to the internet to see what comes highly recommended.

Marks and Spencer's Magic Shaping High Waisted Skinny Jeans caught my eye with their array of glowing five-star feedback. A shopper named Annie enthused: "Perfect fit. Very comfortable. I very often have a problem with jeans but these are just right."

Another happy customer shared: "Very happy with purchase. Would recommend to a friend and not age related." Yet another satisfied buyer described them as: "Very Good fitting jeans." They added: "I like the way they don't widen at your back side when bending down. A great fit very comfortable. They come up high at the waist."

Meanwhile, Jafet found favour with the material, noting: "Good strong denim, right amount of stretch. Long are long enough and high waist good." Intrigued by the resurgence of skinny jeans, I ventured to my local Marks and Spencer to test out if the high praise was justified.

Faced with various styles, I chose the 'skinny' cut, specifically crafted to "hug the body from hip to ankle", reports the Mirror. Other available designs included 'slim flare' and 'straight leg'.

I tried on the pair called 'The Ivy', which featured shaping darts designed to enhance your silhouette. The high-waisted jeans were made from bi-stretch fabric, promising both support and comfort, while the front pockets were strategically placed to provide a slimming effect.

Although I'm a petite size six without much of a figure to begin with, I was pleasantly surprised by how the jeans accentuated my shape. They were a bit of a struggle to put on, but once I managed to wriggle into them, I was impressed by the snug fit and premium feel of the denim.

The jeans did indeed live up to their claim of enhancing your silhouette. They delivered a flattering shape while keeping my midsection in check.

However, I did encounter a couple of issues. I opted for the 'short' leg length, which unfortunately resulted in an unflattering, ankle-grazing fit. Additionally, the £45 price tag seemed a bit steep for a single pair of jeans.

A glance at the reviews revealed mixed opinions from other shoppers. One customer reported a disappointing experience, stating: "First time I wore these jeans was out for an evening. As the evening wore on the seam on the leg split and got bigger through the night causing me to abandon my evening. The fit was was good, but bad quality."

Another reviewer offered a more nuanced assessment, commenting: "The material is good quality but they are very high waisted. I have to wear a belt to hold them up."

Online, there are 27 different sizes available, ranging from a UK six to a UK 22 - though some sizes are already running low. Customers can select from short/petite, regular, and long leg lengths.

I opted for the 'indigo' colour, but there are other choices: black and indigo mix. The denim is sustainably sourced through Marks and Spencer's Better Cotton Initiative - more details about this can be found on its website.

However, Marks and Spencer isn't the only retailer offering 'shaping' jeans. Debenhams has Enorsia Slim shape Bootcut Jeans on sale for £39.99. At Next, you can purchase these Inky Blue Denim Slim Lift And Shape Bootcut Jeans for £48.

ASOS offers Topshop's Hourglass Jamie flare high-rise jeans in rich blue for £46. On Amazon, you can buy MYT Women's Magic Shaping Straight Leg Jeans for just £19.99. These jeans have an average customer rating of 4.2 stars out of five.

Customers find the MYT Women's Magic Shaping Straight Leg Jeans fit well and are comfortable. They appreciate the nice colour, stretchy fabric, and good quality material. The jeans sit nicely around the hips and feel soft. Many customers find them to be a great value for money.
