The Miami Hurricanes are two weeks away from their 2023 spring game at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, and second-year coach Mario Cristobal is teasing some big changes to this year’s team.

“I think for the spring game, I think it’s going to be exciting for our fans to see, schematically, some of the things that we’re doing and some of these new guys, watching them get after it, because they’re pretty damn good,” Cristobal said in a video released by Miami Athletics after a scrimmage on Saturday.

The spring game will be the first chance fans have to see the team under new offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson and defensive coordinator Lance Guidry.

Cristobal said the offense is nearly completely installed, and the staff streamlined the offense on Saturday.

“They looked fast today,” Cristobal said. “They played faster today.”

Recapping the events of the scrimmage, Cristobal said the offense scored but the defense came back and forced a negative drive.

Cristobal said some areas of the defense were ahead of others, but he had praise for Guidry as he works through his first spring at UM.

“As good of a football teacher as it gets and as good of a connector of human beings as you’re going to find, as well,” Cristobal said. “He’s a tough son of a gun, and he coaches that way.”
