Former UTV newsreader Marc Mallett has returned to broadcasting after his departure from the channel was announced last November.
The North Belfast man has joined the Radio Bulletins newsreading team for the BBC in Belfast as part of several recent appointments for the newsroom.
Mr Mallett joined UTV in 2007 after having spent ten years working in radio with Citybeat. Prior to that, he had gotten his first taste of broadcasting experience when he volunteered with the hospital radio in the Royal Victoria Hospital.
Over the years, Mr Mallett became a prominent figure at UTV, where, in addition to his news duties, he hosted the current affairs programme Up Close and a number of the channel's election debates.
The presenter hadn't been seen on screen in a number of months, which prompted some viewers to take to social media to ask where he had gone before UTV confirmed that he had "decided to move on" from the broadcaster after 17 years.
It is understood that Mr Mallett will take on the part-time newsreader role on a fixed-term basis with the BBC.
A BBC spokesperson said: “We’ve made several recent appointments to the Belfast newsroom, including Marc Mallet who’ll be joining our Radio Bulletins newsreading team.”
Earlier this month, the BBC announced a number of changes to their Radio Ulster schedule including moving popular presenters Vinny and Cate to the mid-morning slot, The Connor Phillips Show being moved to an extended mid-afternoon slot and the long-running news programme Evening Extra being reduced to just one hour.
