When it comes to travelling abroad, most people end up overpacking believing they'll run out of clothes part way through their holiday.
But a seasoned traveller has shared a brilliant tip on a Reddit thread titled 'What are your funny, silly, or just plain entertaining travel hacks once you've already mastered all the serious ones?', revealing his clever 'sleep shirt' strategy to avoid overpacking and save space.
The man revealed he doesn't bother bringing pyjamas on his trips. Instead, he purchases a souvenir T-shirt at his destination. He said: "When I arrive, I'll buy a souvenir shirt and it becomes my sleeping shirt while I'm away... and back home."
His hack got people talking, with one fellow Redditor responding: "I love this idea - However, I get pretty hit or miss with wearing clothes off the rack without washing it first. The dyes, chemical processes, and then warehouse dust, sometimes really irritates my skin."
Another traveller expressed regret for not thinking of this sooner: "I'm going to steal that hack for my next trip."
The post drew further appreciation as another user commended: "Very clever! Thanks for sharing."
Meanwhile, an additional commenter shared their own approach: "Interesting. My sleeping shirt is whatever shirt I plan on wearing the next day."
Forum users have been sharing their quirky travel tips, with one adventurous traveller noting: "I try to get a tattoo when I visit a place. It doesn't always work out, but it saves on weight compared to other kinds of souvenirs."
Others contributed their own unique habits, with one saying: "In every city, I find the smallest and coolest book store and buy a book and canvas book bag. In the local language, of course. Google Lens helps me read the book."
They also revealed how they integrate into the local scene, adding: "Then, in the evening, I go to the locals bar, have a local cocktail, and read. I've met so many interesting people this way. It's a great conversation starter."
One forum user shared their sustainable approach: "I thrift! I look for a charity shop. I buy a littles something like a book or Christmas decoration, a mug, a piece of jewellery that I can use and will remind me of the trip. I also look for things like a blanket for the beach, or an umbrella.
"I also donate some of my stuff on the way out of town. By bringing things I'm ready to pass on, I have more room to bring my treasures home!"
