Man charged with animal cruelty in wake of alleged activity in North Down area

A man has been charged with animal cruelty in the wake of alleged activity in the Bangor area.

In a brief statement issued on Thursday, the PSNI said officers “have charged a 59 year-old man to court for causing unnecessary suffering to an animal”.

The man, they added, “is scheduled to appear before Newtownards Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday 23rd January”.

As is usual procedure, the charge will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

It is understood the charge is in relation to a report of animal cruelty in the Silverbirch Glen area of Bangor on Wednesday, 22nd January.
