Man arrested on Westlink for 'high value’ alcohol theft also had no driving licence, police say

A man wanted in relation to a 'high value theft' in Belfast has been caught by police. After being stopped on the Westlink using "pre-emptive tactics", the man was found to be driving the vehicle with no licence and no insurance.

Suspected Class A drugs were also found on him when searched in custody.

In a post on social media, the PSNI said: "Officers from Mahon Road RPU, alongside colleagues from Road Policing Interceptors based in Maydown & Auto Crime Team, stopped this vehicle tonight on the Westlink using pre-emptive tactics to prevent the likelihood of a pursuit.

"The driver was wanted for the high value theft of alcohol from the Belfast area yesterday.

"He also had no driving licence or insurance.

"The vehicle was seized for no insurance and the driver was arrested. During a search in custody, suspect class A drugs were also found on him.

"He will now be interviewed in relation to the above offences."
