A man was arrested near the presidential residence in central Seoul on Sunday for brandishing a box cutter toward demonstrators at the scene, police said.

The middle-aged man, whose identity was withheld, was charged with special intimidation for wielding a box cutter against protesters who held opposing views, according to the Seoul Yongsan Police Station.

Police plan to investigate the detailed motive behind the crime. No casualties were reported.

Various rallies have been held near the presidential residence both for and against the detention of President Yoon Suk Yeol following his short-lived imposition of martial law in early December. (Yonhap)
