BLACKF00T — A man is in jail after police say he led officers on a high speed chase before crashing into a car and a building that resulted in a woman and a child going to the hospital.
Dustin Strange, 40, was arrested on multiple charges including felony eluding, felony trafficking of a controlled substance, felony destruction of evidence and misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia. There was also a felony parole warrant out for his arrest at the time of the incident.
It happened Thursday around 4:30 p.m. A Blackfoot police officer tried to stop Strange’s vehicle near East Alice Street and North West Main Street, according to a news release from the Blackfoot Police Department.
“Within 30 seconds after attempting to conduct the traffic stop on the suspect vehicle, the suspect vehicle fled at a high rate of speed and caused a traffic collision at the intersection of West Judicial and South Ash,” the news release says. “The suspect vehicle, driven by Dustin Strange, failed to stop at a stop sign, crashing into another vehicle and then a building, causing significant damage to both the vehicle and the building.”
A woman and child in the vehicle Strange hit were taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation and released. A woman in the car with Strange was also treated and released at the hospital, according to the release.
Strange has an extensive criminal history in multiple counties, according to the iCourt Portal. He was booked into the Bingham County Jail and is expected to appear in court on Friday.
