The Sri Lankan government has assured that liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplies will remain sufficient in the coming months, despite ongoing distribution issues.

Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa stated that both state and private suppliers have scheduled shipments that are expected to meet and exceed national demand.

According to the minister, Litro Gas is set to receive a 22,000 metric tonne shipment on March 28, followed by another 22,000 metric tonne consignment in April.

Private supplier Laugfs Gas has also confirmed upcoming deliveries, including two shipments totaling 8,000 metric tonnes at the end of March and a larger shipment of 21,000 metric tonnes scheduled between April 25 and 27.

Jayatissa noted that Laugfs typically supplies around 7,000 to 8,000 metric tonnes per month to the local market. With the planned shipments from both suppliers, overall supply is expected to surpass national requirements.

However, he acknowledged that distribution-related issues are currently affecting availability in certain areas.

Responding to questions regarding the possible use of Laugfs storage facilities in Hambantota, the minister said discussions are ongoing. The proposal involves allowing additional gas shipments to be stored there if necessary to support supply stability.
