SHELLEY — A woman and a teenage girl were hospitalized following a three-vehicle crash near Shelley.
It happened on U.S. Highway 91 at milepost 120.5 northeast of Shelley, according to a news release from Idaho State Police Monday afternoon. It’s unclear when it happened.
ISP report a 44-year-old woman from Shelley, whose name was not released, was traveling north on U.S. 91 in a 2018 Ford Explorer. She veered into oncoming traffic, causing the 17-year-old Idaho Falls girl headed south in a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, to hit her head on.
“The Grand Am came to rest on the north shoulder, while the Explorer spun around and came to rest facing South in the southbound lanes,” ISP say in the news release.
A 51-year-old Idaho Falls man driving a 2013 GMC Sierra hit the back of the Explorer.
Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt, according to ISP. The exact conditions of the victims was not specified, but the driver of the Explorer and the Grand Am were taken by ambulance to a hospital. It’s not clear whether the GMC driver was injured.
Both lanes of travel were blocked for about two hours while emergency crews were on scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
ISP is grateful to the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office and EMS, Shelley Police Department and the Idaho Falls Fire Department for their assistance.
