Live as police close section of M2 and warn of disruption to traffic

Police have closed a section of the M2 motorway this morning due to an ongoing incident.

The motorway was closed in both directions at Sandyknowes and Greencastle shortly before 7am this morning due to the incident.

At around 8am, the southbound carriageway reopened to traffic, however the northbound one remains closed.

Diversions have ben put in place and motorists are being asked to find alternative routes for travel.

There are no further details regarding the incident that has caused motorway closure with the PSNI saying that it will provide an update in due course.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Motorists are advised of a number of lane closures on the M2 motorway this morning, Saturday 30th November. All three lanes north bound at the hill section are closed, with traffic being diverted off at Greencastle. The motorway is also closed south bound at Sandyknowes. The motorway on-slip lanes city bound at Sandyknowes and Greencastle are also closed. An update will follow in due course."
