Lee Feeney parks Bangor's promotion push for 'free hit' in Irish Cup semi-final

Lee Feeney says he is happy for Bangor to park their promotion push to the Irish Premiership momentarily as they prepare for the 'free hit' against Dungannon Swifts in this evening's Irish Cup semi-final.

The Seasiders look on course to return to the topflight for the first time since 2009 as they currently sit eight points clear at the top of the Championship with five games to play after they bounced back from a heavy defeat to H&W Welders with victory over Dundela last week.

Promotion to the Premiership is the ultimate goal for the North Down outfit, but Feeney is allowing himself to dream of a big day out in May.

"We were looking for a reaction following the defeat to the Welders," he explained.

"We let ourselves down and we let the fans down. We had a chat about it, everyone was disappointed and we were sure of getting a reaction against Dundela because we trust the players, we have a good bunch there.

"It wasn't made easy for us, we still had to battle for it. After the game our focus switched straight from the league to the Irish Cup.

"I spoke to the players afterwards and told them that now we lock in on Dungannon.

"We are switching off from everything to do with the league from league titles to promotion and everything else momentarily.

"It's going to be a tough, tough task for us, they are a quality side, they also have consistency and depth in their squad.

"We're looking forward to it, for me it's a free hit, and it's a nice distraction from the league. We will certainly give it a real go."
