Leanne Thomas named as woman who died in Cookstown crash

Police have named the woman who died in a road traffic collision on the main Dungannon-Cookstown road.

43-year-old Leanne Thomas (nee Carey) from the local area died following the serious two-vehicle collision in Co Tyrone on Thursday evening.

Three others including a young child have also been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Emergency services were called to the scene involving a Ford Ka and a Nissan Noten which occurred at Old Loughrey Road in Cookstown shortly before 5pm on February 20.

The NIAS despatched 2 Rapid Response Paramedics, 5 Emergency Crews, 1 HART Crew and one ambulance officer to the incident. Ambulance Control also tasked the Charity Air Ambulance, with HEMS crew on board, to attend.

Earlier today, a PSNI spokesperson said: "Police can confirm that a woman has died as a result of a collision on the main Dungannon-Cookstown Road yesterday, Thursday 20 February.

"The crash involving a Ford Ka and a Nissan Note occurred close to the Old Loughrey Road shortly before 5pm.

"The deceased, who was a passenger in the Ka, sadly died at the scene. The male drivers of both vehicles and a young child who was travelling in the Nissan, were taken to hospital with serious injuries."

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or anyone who may have CCTV, dash-cam or other footage that could assist with the investigation is asked to contact detectives from the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference 1299 20/02/25.
