Lava Hot Springs Fire and Ice Winterfest returns with thrills to push your limits

LAVA HOT SPRINGS — The annual Lava Hot Springs Fire and Ice Winterfest is back with activities for the whole family.

The Winterfest is held each year on the first full weekend of February. This year, the celebration will be Feb. 7 and 8.

Both days will have a market fair and a variety of food trucks. On Friday, Feb. 7, patrons can enjoy a beer tasting at Eruption Brewery and Bistro and wine tasting at Lava Hot Springs Riverside Inn.

That evening at 7 p.m., visitors can gather for the Fire and Ice Parade of Lights.

Saturday’s events will kick off with an American Legion Waffle and Sausage Breakfast at the Lava Hot Springs Community Center from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

That morning, running enthusiasts can race in the Running of the Bulls. Runners will race in their swimsuits and finish the race by jumping in the State Foundation Pools.

The Polar Bear Beer Garden will be available all afternoon in the Lava Foundation East Park for food and drinks.

At the Lava Hot Springs Indoor Aquatic Center, children 12 and under can participate in the Children’s Water Carnival.

At 1 p.m., visitors can line up for the Polar Bear Costume Judging Party. Afterward, participants can float a quarter mile down the Portneuf River to the Community Building. Contestants must purchase a Polar Bear Float ticket to participate.

At 6:30 p.m., fire dancers will grace the stage, accompanied by the Aaron Ball Band, which will later perform a concert at 8:30 p.m.

The night will end with fireworks launched from the city’s north side.
