Korean Oceans Minister Kang Do-hyung will attend the inauguration ceremony of new Uruguayan President Yamandu Orsi this weekend as Seoul's special envoy to the event, Kang's office said Tuesday.

Kang plans to convey the Korean government's congratulatory message to Orsi on Saturday and also deliver hopes to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various fields, according to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

Uruguay is one of Korea's major trading partners in Latin America, with bilateral trade between the two countries reaching $340 million last year.

Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1964, the two countries have collaborated in politics, the economy, defense and many other areas.

The ministry said Kang will also hold meetings with Uruguayan government officials, companies and overseas Koreans in the country during his trip. (Yonhap)
