James McClean shared a series of photos from Wrexham's weekend victory over Stockport County after he was allegedly involved in an altercation with a rival fan.

It was alleged that a punch was aimed at the former Republic of Ireland international as he was heading towards the tunnel at the Racecourse Ground, leading to police and stewards stepping in. The supporter was reportedly escorted out of the stadium at half-time.

McClean played a part in the game's only goal, scored halfway through the first half. Wrexham were given a penalty when his header struck the arm of Stockport defender Ibby Touray, reports the Irish Mirror.

Referee Simon Mather conferred with his assistant referee before awarding a penalty, which was taken by 36-year-old forward Jay Rodriguez. His 12-yard attempt was blocked by goalkeeper Corey Addai, but the rebound fell kindly to Rodriguez, who didn't miss on his second try.

On Sunday, McClean uploaded a series of images from the match on his Instagram account, including photos of him celebrating with Rodriguez.

One of the pictures, possibly referencing the incident with the Stockport fan, showed him making a kissing gesture towards the fans. It is understood that the English FA are investigating the matter.

Wrexham are currently second in League One and are on track for another promotion, following consecutive promotions from the National League and League Two.
