I'm a Celeb's Melvin Odoom has candidly revealed the distressing moment he almost quit the popular series. In an exclusive chat with the Mirror, Melvin disclosed for the first time the frightening incident that led to him being saved by a security guard during a storm after his urgent calls for help went out.

The ordeal happened as he woke up drenched amidst a nighttime storm following an evening of battling hunger. "I had my mic on, and I was like, 'guys, I want help.' This guy came out like a commando...he had a light on, and he's like, 'Melvin, are you okay? Come with me,'" he detailed.

Viewers were touched seeing Melvin tearfully confide in Oti Mabuse during the night's events. Yet, he admitted that what was broadcast was merely a fraction of the experience, as several fellow contestants provided support when he needed it most.

When asked if he thought about leaving the programme, he acknowledged: "Yes, because I found it difficult, and I thought the finish line seemed quite far away."

Nevertheless, he chose to stay, driven by the memory of his premature departure from Strictly Come Dancing, as reported by the Mirror.

He reflected: "I didn't want to let my family down. And the most similar process to this that I've ever done in my life was Strictly, and I was the first person out, and I was aware of that in my head."

Melvin candidly shared that his natural emotional disposition made him feel out of place in the camp, especially compared to fellow campmates like Oti, Alan, and Coleen, who appeared much tougher. "You've got people like Oti and Alan, who are really strong, and Coleen, who I don't think shed a tear once during the time when I was there," he observed.

"And I was like, 'How can I sit here crying when these guys have got little babies at home, and they're just holding it together?'"

After being the fourth star to exit the 'I'm A Celebrity' jungle, Melvin opened up to Ant and Dec, saying, "I was ready to go. The best thing about that camp is the people, I loved every single person in there."

Reflecting on his connection with Oti, he shared: "Oti reminds me of my sister who I am really close to. As you guys, know she's super positive and super funny at all times which you need in camp."

I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! airs daily at 9pm on ITV.
