Barry McGuigan couldn't resist sharing his candid thoughts on fellow I'm A Celebrity contender Dean McCullough during another trial stint. BBC Radio One presenter, Dean, has become something of a regular in the trial arena, after repeatedly being chosen by viewers to face the show's gruesome challenges.
His achievements have been mixed, with a record of just two stars snagged last week leading him to exclaim "I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!" as he bowed out of a challenge.
However, Monday evening witnessed a dramatic turnaround for the radio personality when he clinched 10 out of the anticipated 12 stars in the Jack and the Scream Stalk task. The outcome left hosts Ant and Dec noticeably impressed. "10 stars, a new personal best you even got a round of applause from me today," Ant commended. "You do make us proud, you did try!"
Back at camp, Dean was greeted with hearty cheers from his fellow campmates, who lavished praise on him for his victory. Former boxing world champ Barry joined in the praise but didn't miss the chance for a sharp-tongued remark about Dean.
In the Bush Telegraph, he candidly commented: "He screams, he shouts and he's overdramatic." Ant and Dec have actually appealed to viewers to halt the relentless selection of Dean for trials, and let others step into the spotlight for the star quest.
During their chat on I'm A Celebrity Unpacked, the pair felt it necessary to have a 'serious talk' with the audience about the recurring votes for Dean, reports the Mirror.
"Right, let's all have a serious talk, and I'll look directly in the camera here," Ant declared, positioning himself to face the viewers at home. Dec couldn't help but express mock alarm, exclaiming "Oh God!" as he sensed his co-host was about to lay down the law.
Clarifying his earlier statement, Ant continued: "I think it's good to see other faces down there, this is not a personal thing, and it's not about Dean."
As Ant's speech grew louder, his passion was palpable: "It's about us just seeing different people down there! And I think we want to see different people on the show being featured.
"Some people unfortunately aren't getting - you know what, I'd like to see Barry do a trial, let's see Melvin down there, Oti! But we find this every year when someone gets voted multiple times. You just get to a point where you go, 'Who's still voting for Dean? ' I don't get it."
The sentiment was shared by the viewers, with many urging for a change in participants for the trials. The social media airwaves buzzed with comments like: "Time to watch Dean do another challenge. How boring the British public is."
Others chimed in with remarks such as: "Looking forward to seeing if Dean p****s me off tonight," and "The Dean show is starting now" accompanied by an eye roll emoji, signalling their frustration.
However, it looks as though Ant and Dec's demands were answered as Maura Higgins and Jane Moore have been selected to do the trial on Tuesday night.
I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! continues weeknights on ITV from 9pm.
