It might not raise an eyebrow in Oslo or matter much in Moscow but when we get a skiff of snow here in Northern Ireland, we lose the run of ourselves.

Whether it's being unprepared for icy car windscreens, or haring off into the Mournes to experience the snowy peaks in a pair of gutties we always seem surprised that in winter – it gets cold.

But with a Yellow Weather Warning in place until Thursday evening, you don't have to venture out in the big chill as we've collated all the best pictures of the picturesque cold snap.

And for those who are interested here's what the weather forecast reads like: "For many places a dry and clear night allowing a hard frost to develop. Wintry showers continue near the North Coast. Minimum temperature -4 C."

The forecast for tomorrow, November 21, states: "Bright spells and further wintry showers, particularly in the north, merging into some longer spells of sleet and snow later. Occasionally fresh west to northwest winds. Maximum temperature 5 C."
